GE & Professional Series Brand Dehumidifier Recall Issued By Midea

Midea Recalls GE and Professional Series Brand Dehumidifiers Over Risk of Fire.

A dehumidifier recall has been issued by GD Midea Air Conditioning Equipment Ltd (“Midea”) recalling 198,000 GE & Professional Series Brand Dehumidifiers (white with a front-loading water bucket) sold at Walmart, Sam’s Club, Home Depot, Menards and other retail stores nationwide from February 2007 through June 2009 for between $140 and $180 reportedly because a component in the recalled dehumidifier’s compressor can short circuit, posing a fire hazard to consumers, according to a U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) GE & Professional Series Brand Dehumidifier recall news report.

Midea and GE have reportedly received reports of incidents involving smoke and fumes emitting from the unit and reports of fires.

Consumers are reportedly being asked to stop using the recalled GE & Professional Series Brand Dehumidifiers and contact Midea to determine if their product is included in the recall and to return the recalled dehumidifiers to an authorized service center for a free repair.

So I sent mine into the Sears repair center to get the component replaced. Got it back and it didn’t work. The humidity continued to climb and it seemed to run all the time. It worked fine before the recall.
After a number of weeks it stopped working and blew the circuit breaker. Took off the drain hose and oil ran out. Went back to Sears and they sent it back to their repair center. They called today and said that GE only gives them the kit for the recall. They gave me a number to call which is the recall number and after 10 min. on hold was disconnected. Now who is going to fix it? Is Sears or GE responsible?
