Aveeno Aerosol Sunscreen Recall Issued After Testing Identified Benzene In Certain Aveeno Sunscreen.

Johnson & Johnson Has Voluntarily Recalled Certain Aveeno Aerosol Sunscreen That May Have Contained Benzene.

On July 14, 2021, Johnson & Johnson announced that it was voluntarily recalling all lots of certain AVEENO® aerosol sunscreen product lines to the consumer level due to the presence of benzene. According to the Aveeno recall notification, benzene is classified as a human carcinogen, a substance that could potentially cause cancer depending on the level and extent of exposure.

The Aveeno recall notice stated that while benzene is not an ingredient in any of the Aveeno sunscreen products, it was detected in some samples of the impacted aerosol sunscreen finished products and stated that consumers should stop using these specific Aveeno products and appropriately discard them.

The Aveeno sunscreens that were recalled include:

  • AVEENO® Protect + Refresh aerosol sunscreen
