Johnson & Johnson Has Voluntarily Recalled Certain Neutrogena Aerosol Sunscreens That May Have Contained Benzene.
On July 14, 2021, Johnson & Johnson announced that it was voluntarily recalling all lots of certain NEUTROGENA® aerosol sunscreen product lines to the consumer level due to the presence of benzene. According to the Neutrogena recall statement, benzene is classified as a human carcinogen, a substance that could potentially cause cancer depending on the level and extent of exposure.
The Neutrogena recall notice stated that while benzene is not an ingredient in any of the Neutrogena sunscreen products, it was detected in some samples of the impacted aerosol sunscreen finished products and stated that consumers should stop using these specific products and appropriately discard them.
The Neutrogena sunscreens that were recalled include:
- NEUTROGENA® Beach Defense® aerosol sunscreen,
- NEUTROGENA® Cool Dry Sport aerosol sunscreen,
- NEUTROGENA® Invisible Daily™ defense aerosol sunscreen,
- NEUTROGENA® Ultra Sheer® aerosol sunscreen
