GE Profile™ and GE Monogram® Dishwasher Recall Issued By GE Appliances & Lighting Over Potential Fire Hazard

GE Appliances & Lighting Recalls 174,000 GE Profile™ and GE Monogram® Dishwashers Due To Electronic Control Board Overheating and Fire Hazards.

A dishwasher recall has been issued by GE Appliances & Lighting (“GE Appliances & Lighting” or “GE” or “General Electric”) recalling 174,000 GE Profile™ dishwashers and GE Monogram® dishwashers sold at retail stores nationwide, appliance dealers and authorized builder distributors from July 2003 through December 2006 for between $750 and $1,400, reportedly because water condensation can drip onto the electronic control board, causing a short circuit and resulting in an overheated connector which can lead to a fire hazard to consumers, according to a U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) dishwasher recall news report.

The GE Profile™ and GE Monogram® dishwasher recall reportedly includes the following GE Profile and GE Monogram dishwasher model and serial numbers:

I am disgusted with your service. My Contractor installed a GE portable size dishwasher Model GSS1800H1BB portable AF700401F June 15, 2003. I continue to renew my warranty. However, for the past month I have been sent the wrong dishwasher bottom rack. The old one rusted and I had previously told the repairman but he did nothing. Then it rusted so bad the wheels fell off and clogged up the machine so it couldn ‘t drain. So he comes again a month ago and orders a new rack. Since that time I have been sent the wrong rack twice. The second time one of the wheels was already broken off. Now, he is supposed to come again today to see whats wrong and obviously I won’t have a working Dishwasher for Thanksgiving.

I’m still disgusted with your product and services. The Service Man was nice enough but still brought the wrong rack, stating the old one wasn’t available any longer. The silverware container that he brought with the new rack has no special place to go in the rack and therefore takes up needed space for dishes and my old silverware rack doesn’t fit in the new rack. My old rack held many more dishes and silverware. I don’t see my number on your recall list but if you can’t provide the correct parts then you should replace the whole dishwasher at no cost to me since I renew my Warranty every year. Mary Anderson

I received the recall letter, called your # and yes my GE Monogram is a recall dishwasher. I asked to receive the rebate and got the letter telling me what to do, and went to a GE dealership. What a surprise! I had no idea that you were providing so little, that the new dishwashers allowed were only Monogram, Profile and Cafe and that I would be coming up with over $600.00 to replace a faulty dishwasher.
I want to get the dishwasher I have repaired but you are closed on the weekend and I cannot figure out how to handle this on the Web. What a mess.

Carol – Run from the Recall repair. I had it done as soon as I got the notice. The dishwasher (which was working fine) has now died 3 times in less than 90 days. The time I have spent away from work each time to meet the repair man for diagnostic and then a week later for part installation could easily have cost me more than $600. Only downside is that you will still own a GE. You might want to just start over with a different vendor.
