Hyundai Recall: Hyundai Recalls Certain Hyundai Vehicles Due to Risk of Engine Compartment Fire

Hyundai Recall: Hyundai Has Recalled 1.64 MIllion Vehicles Due to Fire Risk from the Anti-Lock Brake System (“ABS”).

On September 22, 2023 Hyundai Motor America (“Hyundai”) issued a recall of approximately 1.64 million vehicles due to the risk of fire (Recall No. 23V651000). According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (“NHTSA”), the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) module on certain Hyundai vehicles may leak brake fluid internally and cause an electrical short, which can result in an engine compartment fire while parked or driving.

  • 2011-2015 Hyundai Elantra
  • 2011-2015 Hyundai Genesis Coupe
  • 2011-2015 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid
  • 2012-2015 Hyundai Accent
  • 2012-2015 Hyundai Azera
  • 2012-2015 Hyundai Veloster
  • 2013-2015 Hyundai Elantra Coupe
  • 2013-2015 Hyundai Santa Fe
  • 2014-2015 Hyundai Equus
  • 2010-2012 Hyundai Veracruz
  • 2010-2013 Hyundai Tucson
  • 2015 Hyundai Tucson Fuel Cell and
  • 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport

Recalled Hyundai Related Injury/Incidents

According to a NHTSA Consumer Alert for the recalled Hyundai vehicles, “Hyundai does not know of any crashes, injuries or fatalities associated with this defect. There have been 21 related vehicle fires in the United States as well as 22 thermal incidents, including visible smoke, burning and melting.”

Remedy For Owners of Recalled Hyundai Vehicles

The Hyundai recall notice stated that owners of the recalled vehicles are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete. Dealers will replace the ABS fuse, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed November 21, 2023. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai’s number for this recall is 251.
